Susannah Spurgeon Quote

When I picked up a little book titled “Free Grace and Dying Love,” I couldn’t help but begin pouring over its pages. The first part is a collection of devotions by Susannah Spurgeon and the second part is a biography on her life.

Charles and Susannah Spurgeon’s story is a beautiful and inspiring one. They came together as one and faithfully served and sacrificed much to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and seek first His kingdom and righteousness. (She’s actually featured in one of our paper doll collections.)

Susannah’s writings in the collection of devotions is beautiful evidence of her great love of and submission to her Savior. While her life was far from trial-free, Susannah saw the goodness of the Lord through the afflictions and trusted in His good pleasure – the One “who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think” and “causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

A couple of my favorite quotes from this volume:

“Lord, You have told me who You are, You have in mercy revealed Yourself to me, I know You to be that blessed ‘gift of God’ which alone can save and satisfy my soul. The depth and compass of heavenly love are manifested in You, and You have shown me, not my need only, but the sufficiency of Your grace and power to meet it. I am an empty sinner, You are a full Christ!”

“The soul that has learned the blessed secret of seeing God’s hand in all that concerns it, cannot be a prey to fear, it looks beyond all second causes, straight into the heart and will of God, and rests content, because He rules.”

—Susannah Spurgeon

I need Christ in all things and I know that He is sufficient. He rules and reigns and I can rest content in Him. How thankful I am that, by the grace of God, I serve a full Christ!

Susannah Spurgeon Quote

“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
—Ephesians 3:20-21

After spending months pouring into this project, Breezy and I are grateful to present:

Inside you will find paper dolls of the Captain and 15 of the most beloved passengers of the Titanic, mini-biographies, clothing changes, two fold-out scenes on the decks of the Titanic, and a faithful retelling of God’s Providential work in history.

While learning about the bravery and sacrifice, children can play and remember…

Men gave their lives so that women and children could live. “Women and children first,” was the cry! Then the lifeboats were lowered into the freezing water below and were rowed away from the sinking ship.

One hundred years ago this year was a night to remember. May we never forget to honor those brave men who went down with the ship, sacrificing their lives so that others could live!

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

Anniversary Sale
Photography by Jonathan Hedrick

The past two years have gone by quickly.

Two years ago, Noble Rose Press started out as a simple idea for an Etsy shop. But it rapidly grew after a few emails, expressed interest, and business research… turning the idea into a larger project.

The idea began in May 2009 and turned into reality in October 2009 when a pallet of boxes containing paper doll books was delivered and moved into our home. Then it grew again in October 2010 when a load of new paper doll books, with the addition of coloring books, arrived at our door and moved in with us.

Those boxes have become a part of our lives, filled with tales of virtuous womanhood, illustrations of beautiful family life, and clothing from times past. (Boxes make for great end-tables in the living room, too!)

To celebrate the second anniversary of our publishing company, Noble Rose Press, we are having a sale

Vintage Books

. . . and many things to learn that can be found between the covers of books.

There is something very refreshing and satisfying about sitting down with a good book to read and study. With a long list of books to read, as well as a good deal of research to do, we will be enjoying many books over the next few weeks.

A book that I have been reading is “Beloved Bride” by Bill Potter. It is a collection of letters from General “Stonewall” Jackson to his wife, Mary Anna, with snippets about their life sprinkled throughout.

After the death of his first wife and their baby, General Jackson wrote the following in a letter to his sister, which is a wonderful example and depiction of his trust in the Lord:

I have been called to pass through the deep waters of affliction, but all has been satisfied. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord. It is his will that my Dearest wife and child should no longer abide with me, and as it is his holy will, I am perfectly reconciled to the sad bereavement, though I deeply mourn my loss.

Oh! The consolations of religion! I can willingly submit to anything if God strengthens me. I have joy in knowing that God withholds no good things from them that love and keep his commandments. And he will overrule this Sad, Sad bereavement for good.

What good books you have been reading lately?
