If you want to enter some great giveaways, head on over to Sew, Mama, Sew!
It’s Giveaway Day!

I’m giving away a bright pea green Pod Pocket!

The pocket is a durable, decorative and protective case for your iPod or iPhone. Your hi-tech gadget will fit snugly inside (just like a bug in a rug!).

Specs about the Pod Pocket:

• This case is perfect for the iPhone, and iPod Touch. It also works great for other things (e.g. cell phones, mp3 players, notes, trinkets, etc.).

• The flat dimensions are 5 inches by 2.75 inches.

• When your iPod/iPhone slips into its case, the case will slightly stretch width-wise and shorten height-wise, with the finished size being the exact shape of the iPod/iPhone.

• Ear buds/phones can be wrapped around the case and tucked under the flap. If you plug in the buds and want to close it in the case, the cord can stick out right beside the flap.

If you’d like to guarantee that you get your own Pod Pocket, just drop by the shop and purchase your own (they’re only $9)!

I will be listing more colors this week (there are 12 colors all together), so don’t forget to check back!

To Enter the Giveaway:

Comment on this post telling me what your plans are for the summer.

I ship internationally, so you can enter no matter where you live!
The winner will be picked via random number.

Deadline to enter is June 1st at 6:00pm EST.

24 February 2009

A contest deadline was yesterday . . . and we made it in just in time. Just in time (I cannot stress that enough).

My project was to photograph a still life that gives glory to God. Fruit was my choice, as it shows God’s amazing creativity and care in designing even the little things.

They were positioned just right in an old enamelware bowl, propped up by an apple (who hid in the back).

In the background are two foam core boards which I painted my favorite color.

To brighten the left side, I had my dear sister hold up a white foam board which reflected light onto the darker side (a tip I learned from a previous photography judge).

The top pick is the one on the bottom left, which was sent away in the mail just yesterday. The photo shoot with the fruit has ended for now, but there will probably be another one some day.

As to the contest, the Lord is in control and His will will be accomplished! Praise be to God!

Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord, O my soul!
I will praise the Lord while I live;
I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.

- Psalm 146:1-2 -

P.S. Just a little heads up, a new design of Simply Vintagegirl should arrive in a few days.

. . . Vanessa!

In her comment she wrote:
I LOVE the apron!! If I didn’t have so many sewing projects lined up, I’d attempt to make one for myself. Random fact: I love spiced chai tea and drink a cup almost everyday.

Thank you to all of you who entered! It was a joy to do this, and I truly wish that I had an apron for you all to win.

I am planning on more giveaways in the future!

Would you like an apron? This giveaway is for the apron pictured below. You can enter for your chance to win (scroll down for details)!

This full length apron is feminine and very girlie. The ruffle at the bottom lays nicely and adds extra beauty. The cotton material has a turquoise background with yellow, pink, and orange floral decoration. The apron ends right above the knees.

There is a pocket on the right side, a perfect fit for one’s hand. The inside of the pocket looks the same as the outside, you cannot see the underside of the fabric.

There are straps to tie around both the the neck and waist. The front of the apron wraps around the side nicely, giving extra coverage, and keeps it from sliding easily.

How do I enter?

To enter ONCE:

Leave a comment telling me one random fact about yourself.

or
To enter TWICE:

Email at least three friends, telling them about this giveaway and linking to this post. Come back and leave me a comment saying that you did that. In the comment, tell me one random fact about yourself.

or

When does the give-away end?

A Homemade Christmas at SimplyVintagegirl.com

Welcome to the third A Homemade Christmas! This is week Three of Ten (you don’t have to enter in each one). I hope you’ll join us in sharing about homemade gifts that you have received or made — past, present, and future!
You can click here for the Introductory post.

Aprons.

They are a great addition to any homemakers wardrobe. They keep one’s pretty garments from getting soiled. Every time one cooks, cleans, or picks up, an apron comes in quite handy. Not only are aprons a protection against grime and dirt, but they can also add a sweet homey look.

There are all sorts of styles of aprons. Retro, Whimsical, etc. Depending on the pattern, they can be tedious or quite simple.

One of the homemade gifts I am giving away this year is an apron. The apron above, actually. It will go to one of my readers. Yes, a giveaway.

It is very easy to enter the giveaway (it will end November 15th @ 7pm EST), click here to enter!

Have you made or received any homemade gifts? If you’d like to make a post about your homemade gifts, you can sign Mr. Linky below. You can add one of my Homemade Christmas icons to your blog by clicking here. Each Thursday (until the end of December) there will be A Homemade Christmas post! Feelin’ Feminine is a new site created to encourage, inspire, and challenge ladies to wear modest feminine clothing. In today’s culture the beauty and elegance of modest femininity has been lost. Looking back to before the 1950′s it is evident that there was a sense of modesty and loveliness about the clothing that women wore, yet today, that has disappeared. At this site, you will find encouraging posts on femininity, inspirations to practice femininity in your daily lives, as well as a challenge to dress in modest feminine apparel.

Sense and Sensibility is a beautiful site where you can find patterns for ladies clothing. Mrs. Chancey has patterns on her site from the Regency Era of the 1800′s to the Swing Era of the 1940′s. You will find ladies’ stories about the dresses they have made from her patterns, as well as a whole section devoted to vintage images. Mrs. Chancey also owns and runs Ladies Against Feminism, a site where ladies are encouraged in their walk with the Lord, and the Biblical role of womanhood.

In early Spring, Eyebright started Homemaker in Training Thursday. When time allows, on Thursdays she posts about how she is preparing to be a homemaker. On each post there is a Mr. Linky, and she encourages others to post what they are learning while training to be a homemaker. It is nice to read and learn from what other young ladies are learning. Click here to see her first post about it. These posts have encouraged me to continue in my training to be a homemaker, and it’s been enjoyable to write about what I’m learning as well.

Hallie at Confessions from the Rubber Room has started a new Photography “school” called Through the Lens. In the lessons that she gives, she helps you to become a better photographer. The assignments so far are Getting to Know Your Camera, and Understanding White Balance. Her tips are very helpful, and I look forward to more of the lessons.

Homeschool Share is a great place for resources on lapbooking and notebooking pages. This site is run by a very dear friend of mine, and the site has grown and taken flight since she started it. Lapbook templates and studies are sent to them from all over, and when approved are posted on the site. Everything on the site is free, and there all kinds of lapbook subjects. A while back we took a little “class” from her where she showed us the different booklets that can go into a lapbook. Lapbooking has become very popular, and now I know why. All of the information on a subject goes into a folder that is easy to look at, and a great way to share your knowledge with others (it’s fun too!).

HSLDA is holding a photo contest for homeschool students! This is an annual contest, and has been taking place for the past three years. There are three categories, according to your age. Use your own creativity to display what your category topic is.
Gentleness (ages 7 to 11 as of July 1, 2008),
Faithfulness (ages 12 to 15 as of July 1, 2008), and
Self-Control (ages 16 to 19 as of July 1, 2008).
There is a $10 entry fee for HSLDA members, and a $15 entry fee for non-HSLDA members. If you would like to see the contest results from previous years, here are the links: 2005, 2006, and 2007. Contest ends this Thursday (must be post marked by then)!

26 March 2008

This year I entered a photograph of my father in the IAHE Convention Art Contest. The category for my age group (8th – 12th) was a photo of someone that has encouraged me in my walk with the Lord. I decided to capture a photo of my father, he has been a wonderful blessing and encouragement to me.

He has taught me about God’s Word, shared with me what God has taught him and still teaching him, he has encouraged me to read and study the Bible everyday, he has led us as a family in worshiping God every evening, and he has provided for his family. I love my daddy!

This is the picture I “captured” of him. We spent a couple evenings just working on getting the “perfect” shot. He was very patient with me as I tried to get everything just right, his position, the camera and tripod, the board behind him, etc. Finally I captured this shot of him. The black and white gives it a classy look, and keeps the color from being a distraction. The board behind him is actually a dark blue.

Today when I went out to get the mail after lunch, I saw that there was a letter for me from the IAHE Convention. All I could say was, “Lord Your will be done. I entered this to honor my father and glorify You. May You be glorified. Your will be done.” When I entered the kitchen I held up the envelope to Momma. She hurried and put the milk away and I opened the letter with Bre and Mom watching me.

Congratulations! You are a winner! Your entry has been chosen to receive the First Place Award in the Photography category for 8th thru 12th Grades and Champion for the Photography Division.”

My eyes almost fell out of my head.

Thank you Lord” was all I could say. Excited, I hurriedly picked up the phone to call Daddy who had come home for lunch, but had already left for work when I got the mail. He was excited and happy, and he actually came home (he works about seven minutes from home) to read the letter. Isn’t that just sweet!

My dear sister, Breezy, won the Champion over all the portfolios (click here to see her entry). She had been notified that she won about a week ago, but we didn’t know about the photography because it had not yet been judged. Our friend Kate won Champion over the other 8th – 12th categories (excluding portfolios and photography). Also, our sweet distant cousin Holland won Champion over the K – 3rd category!

O my strength, I will sing praises to You:
For God is my stronghold, the God who shows me lovingkindness.
” – Psalm 59:17

We will all receive our awards at the convention . . . on stage. I’m a bit nervous about that part, but oh well. The portrait of Daddy will most likely be on the big screen where they will display images of the artwork for all to see. I hope he doesn’t mind. ;)
