Creating a Warm and Cozy Scent for Your Home

This is a delightful and simple way to add an extra dash of “warm and cozy” to your home during these cold winter months. We first encountered this delicious aroma at our friend Laura’s home, and ever since it has been a favorite of ours.

Spice and Clementine Rinds

Combine the following in a small pot:

• Clementine Rinds
• Cinnamon Sticks
• Whole Cloves
• Ground Nutmeg, optional
• Water

Let simmer on the stove, being sure to frequently check the water level and not let it get too low.

Ooooo, my! Sounds great! I love to eat the clementines this time of year, so great idea to use the rinds to make a potpourri!! Thanks!

Lovely, lovely photos, Emily! Funny you posted this today – I have a pot simmering on the stove as I type – started it before I read your post! :)

Mmmmmm….I can smell it all the way over here! haha
I must give that a try as it sounds so wonderful!

    Miss Antoinette

PS. I wonder what apple rinds and/or a little natural maple or vanilla flavoring would do!?

YUMMY! I can smell it now. I love this combination. I’ll do this the next time I can some Marmalade! All those orange peels need no longer go to waste! That and the Orange Peel Candy. Yummy.

Wow, Emily, I tried to take photos of this process once and they came out looking dreadful… yours are wonderful! :) God has given you a great talent and it is a pleasure to see your work. I’ve been thinking of your family lately and hope you’re all doing well… miss you, friends!

Lovely pictures Emily! My grandma used to make a very similar stove-top potpourri mixture. Many happy memories of being snuggled up beside her while she read me a story with that scent in the air. I will have to try some of your mixture and make some snuggly memories with Faith. Hug your mom and Breezy for me. :)

This is my favorite aromas! I often only use orange rinds and cinnamon. You are right you must watch it carefully. I like to get it nice and hot on the stove and then move it into a crock pot, because I am easily distracted.

I love this! I’m only 18 and a freshman in college and was wondering if there was a way to do this without a stove since, you know, we can’t have stoves in the dorms. Sometimes the dorm gets a little funky when it’s hot out.

Kayla, do you know if you’re able to use a small sauce warmer like the Little Dipper Warmer that Crock-Pot offers (see here)? That might be an option, but you’ll want to be extra careful to keep a close eye on the water level so that it doesn’t dry out and burn.
