A tree in a room seems to bring attention to itself. Those who first have a glimpse usually turn their head to have a second look. Hm, how interesting . . . they think, but their thoughts quickly wander off.
But take a tree and give it a name, a purpose. Those who notice will take a gander to see what is so special about said tree. Why looky there! Notes on a tree – I wonder what they say . . . and on they think, and take a peak to see the other side of each note hanging on the branches.
What they find may stay in their minds and even bring a smile to their face. What could that be, listed on each piece of paper?
Why, notes of thankfulness, don’t you see?
Because the tree was called “The Thankful Tree” and on it hung reminders of grateful hearts, declaring their glad praise to the One who blessed them.

I think this is such a sweet idea, and I am honored to have hung a few thankful notes on the branches of The Thankful Tree.
I did something similar. Love yours more.
Think I will do the circular tags next year.
Thanks for sharing your Thanksgiving tree idea.

i love this. i’m always looking for creative (and beautiful) ways to teach my children about god’s goodness. this is a great idea.
thanks for sharing.
Love this idea and you did it so beautifully. Thanks for the constant inspiration.
Fabulous idea Emily! I might just try it. :)
xo,
Madeline
We’ve done some thankful trees before, but never one this lovely! :D I love it! Artwork with a beautiful meaning. :) Thank you for the inspiration and the reminder to be thankful for all we have been blessed with! :D
Love, Hugs, and Blessings! :)
In Christ,
~Rachel~
We had a Thankful tree too, except my 5 year old and I painted paper in Fall colors and then he cut leaf shapes out of it once dried. Then I hole punched them all and we hung them just like your little circles. Such a wonderful tradition!
Emily Rose,
What a beautiful tree, and even more beautiful is the gratitude that comes with it! I will keep this in mind for our next year’s Thanksgiving festivities. =)
I have a question…are you going to continue with “A Homemade Christmas” this year? I dearly hope so! =) This would be my first year to participate; I started blogging in late February, thus missing the last one.
Thank you very much! I hope that you had a very blessed Thanksgiving.
In Christ,
~Annie~
P.S. Happy 18th birthday, several days early! =) May the Lord bless you and keep you in the years to come.
Gorgeous… :-)
So encouraging and so pretty at the same time :)
Gorgeous, Simple and Eloquent!
What a beautiful idea!
The tree looks so beautiful, I love it!
Blessings,
Kristiana
P.S. Happy Birthday!
What a lovely project! We did something similar to this with our extended family a few years ago at Thanksgiving and enjoyed it very much. Yours is simply beautiful with the scrapbooked notes and crisp branches!
Blessings!
Elizabeth
P.S. I, too, was wondering if you are hosting A Homemade Christmas again. It is always such fun to see what other young ladies’ tips and ideas are!! Blessings, sweet friend!
We do that too! :)
This is such a beautiful, beautiful idea! And what a lovely thing for a room to have as its point of focus too. So inspiring!
What a wonderful idea, especially for the Christmas season when our hearts are overflowing with thankfulness! Patsy from HeARTworks
I love this one, Emily Rose! Once all our Christmas decorations are down, I think I’d like to try it!
Pauline
Okay, so now I have to try the flowers AND the tree. Going to be a busy snow day here in NJ. :)
How lovely! I think The Welch Family is going to have a Thankful Tree, too! Or, maybe a Blessings Tree…
I love this idea and am going to do it!!
Very crafty idea. My husband had a similar idea to display God’s Glory, a miracle jar. He placed a very large clear glass jar in his office on his desk, and when coworkers come in he asks them to write out a miracle God has done for them or someone close to them.
Lovely. I’m going to do this w/my children.
beautiful idea. may i also ask what color that is on your walls???
Saw this on Pinterest (Yes, I’m addicted) and I just wanted to let you know…I adore it!
This is fantastic. I’m thinking it might be a nice hostess gift for Thanksgiving…with guests adding thoughts to the tree.
What a lovely idea! I adapted this for my sister’s wedding shower as a “wishing tree.”. Guests were asked to share either marital advice or wishes for wedded bliss for the couple. Simply fabulous. Thanks!
You have a beautiful blog and I love your name. I’m definitely doing this for November…love it!
Are those real branches or artificial? Where did you find them?
Katie, they are real sticks. These are from the leftover trimmings of a tree where my father works. In the past we’ve used trimmings from our pear trees. I hope that is helpful!
I adore this concept. Thank you for the fabulous idea. Intentional gratitude. Love it!
I LOVE THIS! I WAS THIKING ABOUT USING THIS IDEA FOR MY WEDDING. WHAT DID YOU MAKE THE CIRCULAR TAGS OUT OF? CARDSTOCK?
Randi, the tags are made out of scrapbook paper, but could easily be made out of a variety of papers, such as cardstock, colored paper, wallpaper, etc.
What a wonderful idea! This would be a great decoration for our family Thanksgiving dinner. I love Thanksgiving and taking time to stop and thank God for all of His blessings! Thanks for sharing!
I absolutely love this!!!!
Your tree is beautiful! I made one last year as the centerpiece of the Thanksgiving table. The kids and I cut out a bunch of note cards, put a hole in them and tied twine to them. We laid the cards all around the bottom and put markers out. It was an absolute hit!! The kids and the adults all enjoyed it. Then, I saved all of the cards and marked them with the name of the contributor and the date. I figure I’ll do this each year. Then, when the kids are older it will be fun to pull them all out and read through them again.
Love this. Will take this idea for my home.
This is such a wonderful idea and really inspiring too. I am going to do this with my family as we need to have a little thankful/grateful tree in our house.
What a lovely idea. I am going to do this for Thanksgiving this year and have everybody write what they are thankful for.
Beautiful!!
I really love how yours turned out. I want to create one for everyone to add to on Thanksgiving Day. Very pretty!

This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I’m making this this weekend. Thanks for your inspiration. I posted it on my blog here: http://www.mycrazybliss.com/2011/11/thankful-tree.html
I love this idea, you are so creative!
I volunteer working with 1st graders at a intercity bilingual elementary school, and I think this idea would be so great for the students. Starting Monday I think I’ll have each student write what their thankful for, for their morning warm-ups to add to their classroom “Thankful Tree.” Thanks for such a great idea! I’ll defiantly be starting one for my family too, I know my brother would enjoy this, as well as my parents, and myself. So glad I discovered your blog on Pinterest.com. :)
Blessings,
Meredith
LOVE THIS!!! Thank you for such a perfect idea. I am the Youth & Ed Minister at my church and I am going to do this on a larger scale for my 3 year olds through 12th graders as a bible lesson and then invite the whole congregation to join us in writing what they are thankful for. I’ve cut hundreds of “tags” out with my Cricut, on pretty card stock, so all my “kids” and anyone else can write what they are thankful for and have our larger potted tree in our Narthex area for the holidays.
GREAT inspiration!! Thank you!
Thank you for this idea. I was looking for a craft to do with my 3-4th grade Sunday school class this week and this is perfect! I love the simplicity and the meaning. Thank you!
This is so lovely! I’m going to try to make one- I hope it turns out nearly as pretty as yours!
Great Idea! Will definitely have to do this with my boys!
BTW, beautiful wall colors, do you know the name of the color?
Beautiful idea…I had to pin this to share this wonderful idea…I would love for you to join my blog or my Great Pinterest Finds linky party:

Thanks!

I did this with my family for Thanksgiving this year, and we loved it so much that we have decided to extend it into the Christmas season! Maybe it will become a permanent fixture in our home! We have lost a lot of family this year, and this idea helps us focus on what we still have, which is a lot! Thank you for the great idea- it is a very special addition to our holiday tradition.
