. . . up into an oak-tree, and have lots of haycorns just outside the front door instead of having to walk miles and miles, do you see, Pooh?”

- The House At Pooh Corner by A.A. Milne

Piglet by Breezy Brookshire

Last Autumn, I asked my dearest sister if she would do a special project for me. The project would be three small paintings of one dear little character.

That little character was Piglet, the sweet little Piglet in A.A. Milne’s books with “decorations” (illustrations) by Ernest H. Shepard.

This past Spring, little Piglet emerged from the art studio as whimsical as ever. The three pieces I requested that she draw and paint were of Piglet planting the “haycorn.”

Above are the illustrations that she made — they are a special gift from a treasured sister.

Acorns & Autumn

September 22, 2009

Today is the first day of Autumn. This is my favorite season. Not only because it’s my color season, but also because in this season when we prepare for winter we

drive to the local apple orchard, enjoy the smells, and bring home bushels of apples,

listen to the dry leaves crunching under little, happy feet,

smell the smoke of a flaming campfire,

watch the fields of corn that surround us being harvested,

feel the crisp breeze warning of what is fast approaching, and

sip warm apple cider on a chilly morning.

What comes to mind when you think of Autumn?

If you are looking for a couple of lovely giveaways, be sure to stop by:

A visit from the S family!

September 21, 2009

Two weeks ago we had a lovely visit from friends that live in Tennessee. The S family had visited our church a couple of times over the past few years, but we did not actually meet until the Father & Daughter Retreat this past March.

They come to Indiana to visit with family a couple times a year, and this time we were able to have them over for dinner after the morning service.

We all enjoyed a wonderful time of joyful fellowship! It was so good to see Rebekah and her father again, as well as meet her mother and brother, Andrew! What a blessing it is to visit with fellow believers!

I am so thankful that the Lord has crossed our families’ paths! I look forward to spending more time with these dear believers again someday!

The *Project* Unveiled!

September 4, 2009

Breezy and I spent the last six weeks working on a project that the Lord blessed us with. He has seen us through every moment of painting, designing, and writing, giving us inspiration and perseverance!

All of your guesses have been most inspiring (some of you even guessed another project we have in the works), and a few of you guessed correctly! The first was Maddy (I’ve emailed you!), who gets to choose which C — or Collection — she would like.

Our project is . . . A Paper Doll Series of Historical Women in Christ’s Kingdom!

Entitled Daughters of His Story Paper Dolls, this “new series of paper dolls gives young ladies a wholesome and delightful product to enjoy while strengthening them in biblical femininity, character, and love for history. Beautifully and modestly dressed, the ladies featured in these collections are women of God who sacrificed much to serve the Lord, their husbands, and their families.”

Each collection comes with two ladies, two short biographies, three outfits apiece, two timeline figures, and a pocket to be attached to the inside of  the keepsake folder. (Cutting is required, so parental oversight is suggested for younger girls.)

Doll Sample with Dresses

As to the clues . . .

– Anything having to do with food was referring to hospitality (these ladies were very hospitable).

– The Queens — Queen Anne’s Lace — has to do with future ladies which, Lord willing, will be included in future Collections (at the time we had not selected all of the ladies for the first three collections).

– The Computer desk is where I have sat for the past six weeks, cleaning up the images and laying out the booklets.

– The C1, C2 and C3 color swatches are the background colors of the collection covers.

– The Toys from the Past was hinting at paper dolls as toys from the past.

– The Clues with Abigail Adams referred to the research done for Collection Two (which includes Abigail Adams).

These dolls are currently at the printers, and should be available, Lord willing, by early October!

Research

We’ve had some very close guesses, and if two of them were put together you would find out what the *project* is. The first person to correctly guess what we were working on will win one of our C’s! Click here for more details!

A Home Business + Giveaway

September 2, 2009

Breezy and Emily Rose

Breezy and I, this is our “official” picture for the project.

The *project* is a part of our new home business. Breezy and I are working on a project that the Lord has blessed us with that we pray He will use in the lives of many young ladies!

The whole process has been a wonderful learning opportunity. The resources that we have found most helpful have been New Venture Lab and the Entrepreneurial Bootcamp (and of course our sweet mother who did lots of research as we worked). During the whole process it has been amazing to see God’s hand in all of it — only by God’s grace have we been able to accomplish this!

On Friday we will announce what our project is!

In the meantime you can continue to guess what the *project* might be, as the first person to guess correctly (in a comment on Breezy’s blog or mine) will receive one of the C’s we’ve been working on (the winner can choose which one)! To help you out, we (Breezy and I) will be posting clues over the next couple days.

Start guessing away!

Stay tuned in so you don’t miss out on the surprise!
