Be Still

What a beautiful day the Sabbath is! It is a day where we gather as believers to listen to God’s Word being preached, praising and thanking Him for His great works. It is a day of rest, recuperating from the previous week and rejuvenating for the upcoming week. It is a day of resting in Christ our Savior.

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.

- Exodus 20:8-11

God gave us the Sabbath for our benefit . . . He has made us so that we need rest one day in seven. It has been proved, upon fair trial, that men cannot do as much, nor preserve their health as well, by laboring seven days in a week, as they can by laboring six days, and resting one day in a week.

If there were no Sabbath, you would have no day of rest. You would grow weary of school, if you were obliged to attend and study seven days in a week. If you are kept at home to work, you would soon tire out, if you had to labor every day in the week. But, by resting every seventh day, you get recruited, so that you are able to go on with study or work with new vigor.

The Sabbath, in this respect, is then a great blessing to you; and you ought to be so thankful to God for it, as to keep it strictly according to His command.

Clue:

Color Swatches

It’s funny how much time some things take — especially when we’re being perfectionists. Don’t get me wrong, we’re not perfectionists in everything, just mainly in the art world (at least we try to be . . . but it doesn’t always work).

Breezy and I were looking for the “perfect” color of green for our *project*, and it didn’t seem that we were getting anywhere. Over the whole search, we looked at over 50 different greens. They all seemed to be too light, too dark, too cool, too warm, too neon, etc.

We came to a color that was so close we wanted to settle for it, but we knew it wasn’t quite right. Daddy and Momma were listening to us discuss the green (yes, there truly is a lot you can say about a particular shade of green!), when Momma jokingly said,

“Put a 7 on the end of it!”

It was worth a try. And, sure enough, it worked. It worked! Oh, how splendidly shocked and happy we were! Something as simple as exchanging the last number of the color code with a 7 fixed our dilemma.

We like the number 7. God used it frequently in Scripture, making it a very fine number, indeed! It is also pleasing to the eye, pleasing to the ear, and the perfect number for making the perfect color.

That’s all it took: adding the little #7 on the end of the code – problem solved!

Old Books

The following comment was left at Like a Warm Cup of Coffee (in response to this post):

“I would be curious to know what these young ladies do (or plan to do?) for health insurance when they are no longer allowed on their parents’ plan. Or if one of them decided she wanted to study something that she could not do at home (such as nursing! :-) ). Would she be allowed to attend college? Would such a profession not be appropriate? Sorry for all the questions, just curious!!”

My reply:

As a daughter living under the protection and guidance of my father, I choose to stay at home. My mother is a wonderful Titus 2 Woman, and has taught us Biblical womanhood daily by both her words and actions (one of those aspects being “keepers at home”).

I, personally, have no desire to go to college. But, if I chose to be educated by a college in a specific field, it would be with the intention to further bless my family, not to pursue a career.

Going through a university isn’t the only route to higher education – the world is full of information with which we can educate ourselves. Being a lifelong-learner, I have no intention to stop learning just because I graduate from home education. :)

If I were, for instance, interested in a field that required a college education, I would CLEP out of as many classes as possible and acquire my degree online, if possible (CollegePlus! is a great place for such degrees!).

As far as going to college and going into debt, we do not want to bring debt into our marriages, rather, we want to bring wealth.

For health insurance needs, we would purchase it.  :)

Now, what could I be doing? And what would it have to do with this?

Hmmm . . . stayed tuned to find out!

This will only take 10 minutes . . . please watch this short video featuring Voddie Baucham.
It only gets better as the (condensed) sermon unfolds.

All things were created through Him and all things were created for Him. The ultimate purpose of all things is to bring Him glory and honor, and that He might have the supremacy in all things.

So, who am I? The crown and glory of the creation of God. Why am I here? To bring glory and honor to the Lord Jesus Christ! That’s why I exist. That is why you exist.”

- Voddie Baucham

How thankful I am for the grace of God! How thankful I am for the sacrifice of Christ on the cross to pay the debt for my sins — a debt I could never pay back!

When we proclaim the truth, we should always keep in mind that it is God who changes minds and hearts, not any eloquence or persuasiveness that we possess. We mustn’t let fear or frustration keep us from being bold and loving in our proclamations. . . . we may never see the impact of our witness this side of heaven . . . continue reading.”

Every minute of the day we are teaching our children volumes about being a wife and mother just as our husbands teach by their example what it is to be a father and leader of the home. . . . Remember in your heart that one of the key ways to begin to change your home and culture around you is by beginning with yourself . . . continue reading.”
