{Maggie & Emily Rose}

We knew it was coming, but I suppose that it has come a bit quicker than we expected.

We are growing up. Our lives are changing.

Today was Breezy’s homeschool graduation open house. It was a lovely party and I will write more about it later, as well as post pictures. In the meantime, you should read this post by my dear cousin (who I think of as my second sister).

We have a beautiful future to look forward to, but it can be hard to say farewell to the past.

The Lord is forever good and faithful. Praise His holy name!

Praise the Lord!
Praise, O servants of the Lord,
Praise the name of the Lord.

Blessed be the name of the Lord
From this time forth and forever.

From the rising of the sun to its setting
The name of the Lord is to be praised.

The Lord is high above all nations;
His glory is above the heavens.

Psalm 113:1-4

If you want to enter some great giveaways, head on over to Sew, Mama, Sew!
It’s Giveaway Day!

I’m giving away a bright pea green Pod Pocket!

The pocket is a durable, decorative and protective case for your iPod or iPhone. Your hi-tech gadget will fit snugly inside (just like a bug in a rug!).

Specs about the Pod Pocket:

• This case is perfect for the iPhone, and iPod Touch. It also works great for other things (e.g. cell phones, mp3 players, notes, trinkets, etc.).

• The flat dimensions are 5 inches by 2.75 inches.

• When your iPod/iPhone slips into its case, the case will slightly stretch width-wise and shorten height-wise, with the finished size being the exact shape of the iPod/iPhone.

• Ear buds/phones can be wrapped around the case and tucked under the flap. If you plug in the buds and want to close it in the case, the cord can stick out right beside the flap.

If you’d like to guarantee that you get your own Pod Pocket, just drop by the shop and purchase your own (they’re only $9)!

I will be listing more colors this week (there are 12 colors all together), so don’t forget to check back!

25 May 2009

This was inspired by yesterday’s sermon, which was preached by Pastor Bruce R.

When you look into a mirror, is that you in the mirror? There’s only one of you, and that one of you is standing in front of the mirror. What you see in the mirror is a reflection of  yourself, an image.

There are differences between you and that image. For example, when you raise your right hand, it raises it’s left. Though you and the image have similarities, there are differences, too.

Genesis 1:26-27 says,

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him, male and female He created them.”

Just as the image in the mirror reflects our being, we reflect God. We were created in His image, in His likeness. We are made particularly to catch and reflect God’s glory. Sadly, a hammer was taken to that mirror when sin entered the world. The reflection is still there, but the image has been distorted by sin.

Romans 12:2 – “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

The world strives to squeeze you into it’s mold, to convince you that you are defined by the shape of your body, your face, or your hair. You are not defined by these things, you are defined by God, your Creator — it is He that gives you your self image.

We would like to think that the world revolves around us, it’s all about us. We’re born that way (just watch a baby, it clearly shines through — they want what they want when they want it).

We are all sinners (Rom. 3:23), and must be taught to love, to share, and to serve (as well as many other things taught in Scripture!). We must not think too highly of ourselves, lest we fall into pride. We are also not to think too lowly of ourselves to avoid discrediting the grace of God.

Romans 12:3 – “For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think  more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.

We must look at ourselves from an accurate biblical perspective, not from a secular worldview.

We are created. We are creatures. We are creatures made in our Creator’s image. We are not the Creator. We live to serve and glorify God, not the other way around. We are made by God for a purpose, and it is He that defines that purpose.

It is an unspeakable priviliage that we are made in the image of God! Praise the Lord!

It has been a dream of mine since I was very young to have a field filled with daisies, one where I could sit and read, run or walk through, as well as photograph.

One day I hope to find that field . . .

. . . but for now I’m content with my little patch of daisies.

These yummies go by the name of “Stress Ball Cookies” — whether it’s because they are stressful to mix or because you can take your stress out on them, I’m not sure. The fun part about them is mixing them in a very special way: with your own bare hands.

But I suppose that’s not the best part about them, that honor goes to eating them. Whether with chocolate chips or without, baked or unbaked, they are delicious!

Would you like to know how you can make some for yourself (and of course your family, too!)? Here’s the recipe (these can be frozen before or after being baked!):

Stress Ball Cookies
BAKE: 350° for 10-12 minutes | YIELD: 2 Dozen

1 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 cups oatmeal
1 cup brown sugar
¾ cup butter, softened
Chocolate chips (optional)

In a bowl, mix flour and baking soda. Add oatmeal and stir. Pack the brown sugar in measuring cup and dump in bowl. Mix with your hands, and add butter. Mix until well blended (or longer, until your heart’s content), and add the chocolate chips, if desired. Mold into 1-2 inch balls (I find that 1½” is perfect) and place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes.

I highly recommend adding the chocolate chips, they add a delightful touch!

Have a wonderfully blessed Tuesday!

The baby green bean plants springing up from the rich soil of the square-foot-garden bed.

The onions standing up tall, eager to grow with hopes to one day reach the sun.

It is beautiful to see God’s creation springing from the earth! What a glorious God we serve!

He causes the grass to grow for the cattle,
And vegetation for the labor of man,
So that he may bring forth food from the earth,

My sister and I have been very privileged to have our work published in The Girlhood Home Companion, a magazine for daughters, mothers, and grandmothers. The GHC is produced by Mrs. Jill Novak of Remembrance Press.

The magazine “encourages young ladies to enjoy their precious girlhood years while walking closely with the Lord and developing a deeper relationship with Him.” It is both encouraging and beautiful, inspiring ladies in lovely femininity.

In the latest Spring issue, Breezy has a gorgeous painting that has it’s own two-page spread. I have a craft tutorial in the issue, a preview photograph is above. To see Breezy’s painting, and to find out what I made and how you can make it, click here to order your own copy of The Girlhood Home Companion!

Breezy and I will be interviewed by Mrs. Novak online tomorrow (the 15th), if you are interested in joining us (and getting to hear what we sound like!). We will be talking about our home businesses and how to use your talents to start your own! Click here and “join in” New Location: Click here (it’s free!), download, and log in with your name — we will be starting around 4:00pm EST.

People so often look with longing into a day-dream future, while ingnoring the importance of the present. We are all in danger of thinking, ‘Someday I shall be fulfilled. Someday I shall have the courage to start another life which will develop my talent,’ without ever considering the very practical use of that talent today in a way which will enrich other people’s lives, develpe the talent, and express the fact of being a creative creature.
