Yes, it is true. None of us in our family had ever eaten asparagus until just a few days ago.
Inspired by a post by the Pioneer Woman, Momma decided to try making the above dish, Oven-Roasted Asparagus. (This vegetable looks as though it might sprout invisible legs at any moment and start waddling around the table.)
We all ate some and found it quite interesting, coming to the conclusion that it tasted like corn and green beans with the texture hinting at something like celery.
As none of us grew up eating this veggie, we will have to develop a taste for these cute little stems.

It is pleasant to look upon – a very pretty vegetable indeed!
Have you eaten anything recently that you found interesting that you had not tried before?

I have decided I liked this dish. The next day I tried them cold and liked them even more.
You’re right they did look like they could grow little legs. :)
I *love* roasted asparagus! Sometimes when I find it fresh at a Farmers market I will cook two batches, one for dinner and one chopped up into 1 inch pieces to combine with ham and swiss in a quiche!! Yummy! Rachael Ray says most any veggie like this can be roasted! Have you ever done ‘braised celery’? Alton Brown has a recipe for it and it is great! One way to get some more veggies into the kids!
I love asparagus we grill it in the summer its so good.
For Easter my Mom made a cold asparagus saled that was a big hit.
Mmm, I love roasted asparagus. Pioneer Woman has some amazing recipes, doesn’t she?
As for something I haven’t tried before….well, I found this recipe for pureed cauliflower that I ended up loving.
I love asparagus steamed with a little salt, YUMMY! :b..
I’m glad you all got a chance to experience it. :)
It sounds delicious. I hope you enjoy the beautiful day!
Love bunches,
Marie :)
We have had asparagus before, but none of us are crazy about it. It isn’t that we don’t like it, it just doesn’t rank as our favorite.
As to something interesting tried, let me think. Well, I don’t think we have tried anything different lately, but we plan on trying some Haitian food soon. That should be interesting!
Have a very bright, very cheerful day!

I can’t believe you’ve (or anyone in your family) never eaten asparagus before. It’s also really good with bacon wrapped round it and grilled.
I have never eaten asparagus either.
I haven’t tried any “new” foods recently, just a few new recipes, but a few years ago we discovered Cilantro!! The spice Coriander is made from it’s seeds, and the leaves are used in Mexican dishes. If you haven’t tried Cilantro in fresh, homemade salsa, you have never tasted real salsa. It is simply awesome. Warning-some people don’t like it at first! My mom used to hate it, but now she can’t eat homemade salsa without it!! It’s also tasty to throw a handful of Cilantro into white rice right before it is completely done cooking, or use it in a stir-fry.
P.S.
Thanks for putting me on your “link” list!!!!

Hannah, I think you should try new and different foods. I think you should try everything at least once if possible. Don’t finish it if you don’t like it but try it. :)
Well, asparagus is a long time favorite of mine, especially grilled. What have I tried most recently? Sushi. Some of it was unpleasant to eat, while others were fair. We’ll have to see. :)
P.S.
Haitian food, Miss Eyebright?
Are you going to Haiti by any chance? I used to live there, so I just had to ask. Eat a fried plantain in my name. :)
YUM…. I love asparagus especially roasted and
with melted Parmesan cheese on top!!! :)
It’s always so fun to try new things….isn’t it?!
Many Blessings~ Miss Jen
I can’t imagine life without asparagus! So glad you found it and what fun to try new things.
Cheers!

WOW! Never??!?! Asparagus is my FAVORITE thing to eat. When it’s in season I’ll have it multiple times a day. In fact, right this second my husband is making some garlic pasta with homemade pesto, tomatoes and asparagus spears. HEAVEN! I’m so glad you got to try it and like it. I love it SOO much that it hurts just a little to think to people who haven’t had it!
I am so amazed by your photography skills! You make those asparagus look like works of art. They do look so delicious!

You’ve never had asparagus! That is one of the most used vegetables in our house! It is great cooked in olive oil and garlic.

Barbara Kingsolver writes of it beautifully in her book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle.
I looooove asparagus!!! :D You should taste the asparagus my Granddaddy used to grow. YUM.
