Where I have been . . .

February 10, 2009

The beautiful sunrise on the ride down.

We have been away on a bit of a holiday! Last Thursday we traveled down to Columbus, Georgia for a conference with the speakers being the Botkin family. The session topics ranged from home life and siblings to economy and courtship (you can see what the schedule looked like here). It was a wonderfully convicting, encouraging, and inspiring weekend filled with meeting many like-minded believers.

On stage (left to right): Noah, Anna Sofia, Elizabeth, Ben, Lucas, David, Mr. & Mrs. Botkin, and Isaac Botkin.

Here are a few photos and notes from the conference.

the best muffin recipe

February 9, 2009

These muffins are sweet and fruity, and just downright delicious! We currently are trying to tweak the recipe to make them a bit healthier. This last batch was good, but it lost some of its happiness. Once we get the perfect amount of ingredients, I’ll post that recipe, but for now here is the original one.

The Muffin Recipe

BAKE: 20 minutes | YIELD: One Dozen

2 eggs
1 cups sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 tsp. vanilla
8 oz. sour cream*
1 cup blueberries (or strawberries with a banana, or another type of berry, etc.)
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder

In a large bowl, beat eggs. Add sugar, oil, vanilla, and sour cream, mixing well. All at one time, add flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Stir until all is moistened and slightly lumpy. Fold in berries. Pour into oiled muffin cups, fill 2/3 full and bake at 400° for 20 minutes. These full size muffins freeze and thaw very well. This recipe makes 12 muffins.

*A healthier tweak: can be substituted with 1 cup kefir or 1 cup plain yogurt.

The Widow’s Might

February 7, 2009

The Widow’s Might is a film by HeuMoore Productions which was a semi-finalist at the 2009 San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival (SAICFF).

It competed against both Fireproof and Expelled, films that were in theaters all over the nation. The Widow’s Might came out at the top.

At the SAICFF the Best of Festival Award (grand prize of $101,000) and the Audience Choice Award went to The Widow’s Might. It was also the Runner-Up for the Best Feature Film award (which went to Fireproof).

We downloaded The Widow’s Might from Behemoth.com – the film made us laugh and made us cry. The voices (yes, it is a bit of a musical) and cinematography demonstrate great talent. Mr. Botkin described the significance of the film very well (click here to read what he said).

I encourage you to watch The Widow’s Might — it is a great family film that glorifies, praises, and honors God.

Like a warm cup of coffee

February 2, 2009

The latest blog I designed was for Sarah Mae over at Like a warm cup of coffee.

She gave me the specifics and after many enjoyable hours of design work, it was completed. With a pleasant blue background and warm happy header, the template is quite cozy and inviting.

Sarah Mae posts a wide variety of subjects, a few of the topics include Marriage, Modesty, Homemaking, etc. For a live view of her blog, click the above image.

On another designing note, I have a new and improved art print available in my shop!

As a side note, I want to thank the Lord for His protection. I pinched three of my most used fingers in our garage door this evening while I was shutting it. My fingers were wedged where the panels hinge as it was going down. If the Lord had not slowed down the speed of the dropping door, my fingers would probably be broken. Praise be to God!
