“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of God.” – Hebrews 12:1-2
When I was going trough some of my sermon notes, I noticed that I’d written the above verse reference with the following note.
We are to turn away form our sins, and run with endurance in the race He has giving us, and the end (the finish line) is when He calls us home.
Then I got to thinking, these verses say so much more than just that. It shows that we are to display Christ in our lives, and be good witnesses before others, both believers and unbelievers. We should never give up, and we should continually keep our eyes on Christ, who, called us to be His people (Ephesians 1:5,11; 2 Timothy 1:9). He endured the pain and shame of the cross, and the rejection from His Father, and He is now sitting at the right hand of God!
