new camera
May 28, 2008
Wow! I am extremely shocked . . . I don’t know how to start this post. I’ll just plunge in.
We now own a Nikon D60!
Momma went to Best Buy on Saturday and purchased one. The really cute part, is that it was Daddy’s idea. They’ve been talking about it for a while – secretly. I’ve been saving up for a Nikon – and I had a long ways to go before I could afford one.
Saturday morning, they were looking around online at what kind of camera’s a few bloggers have, and then went to the Best Buy website and saw that the Nikon D60 was on sale! God is so good!
That afternoon I took family portraits for some friends of ours. I was so happy with the way they turned out with the Nikon.
Since then, I’ve been taking photos left and right. They turn out clear and extremely sharp.
Here are a few that I’ve taken with the new Nikon. Which is your favorite?

Happy Graduation Eyebright!
May 24, 2008
Dear Eyebright,
Congratulations! You have now graduated from homeschool high school! It’s so encouraging to know that there are those out there who homeschool all the way through. You have been a blessing to me, and your blog is always a fun place to be.
As I was thinking about what to get you, aprons came to mind. Would you like one? You can pick out the style and color, and I’ll make it for you. By the way, this is irl, not just cyber. ;)
God has your whole life planned out, seek Him, and trust in Him. I pray that you will continue to grow in godliness and closer to Christ. May you smile at the future.
“Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future.” – Proverbs 31:25
Thank you for being such a sweet friend, it’s always a joy to get a comment from you.
Blessings,

Baskets
May 20, 2008
We have been involved in 4-H for four years now. It has been a good experience, especially because it pushes us to get projects finished. Otherwise, we might get distracted or loose interest.
Every year we’ve made a basket – we take classes from a lady that doesn’t live too far from us. The good thing about taking a class is that whenever you have a question or problem – she’s right there at your aid. For the past three years, I’ve made up the pattern for the basket I’m making as I go. Usually it starts with an idea of what it will look like, and then it just comes together.
This year, I decided to make a picnic basket. I still have yet to decide whether or not there will be a wooden lid. I probably will end up having Daddy make me one, but wait until after the fair when things have calmed down around here.
All the reed we used was natural, it looks quite different before it is stained. Here’s the base with a few rows finished.

The basket turned out quite large with a 12×18″ base and sides 10″ tall. While working on it, I wasn’t sure how it would really turn out, but after it was stained with walnut, it seemed just right.

This is Maggie, our basket teacher, Me, and Breezy, each of us with our baskets in front of us. Maggie’s is also a picnic basket, and Breezy’s is a Baby Moses Basket.
My basket will go to good use on picnics, day trips, walks, and anything it’s needed for. I’m quite glad I made it. We all had a good time making them, and look forward to making our next basket.
P.S. Tomorrow I will be changing my template. I’ll go ahead and give you a hint at what it will look like. It has to do with matches and paper.

Movie Review: Prince Caspian
May 16, 2008
(Warning: Contains Spoilers)
It’s been three years.
I‘ve been looking forward to seeing The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (PC) for three years. When I heard that they were making the first movie, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe (LWW), I was very excited and looked forward to seeing it, and the ones that would proceed after the first.
The first film, LWW, was very well done, and followed the book quite nicely, only adding a scene now and then.
C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia was a classic, even at the time it was written, but has become even more popular and well-known since Disney and Walden Media paired up to bring it to the big screen. Now, the second installment of the Chronicles has been released – and is playing all over the nation.
Yes, three years ago, I was quite excited, but as I sat down in the theater this afternoon – that excitement was no longer there – it had vanished. I found that I really wasn’t ready for it to start when it did. At the beginning there is no intro – it just starts.
Combined with funny one-liners, and plenty of fighting, the movie was quite far from the book. With many of the scenes having been added to the storyline, it just wasn’t the same as the sweet book.
Of course, Hollywood couldn’t pass up this great chance to elaborate on the evil side and make it far more dark. The scene with the hag and werewolf, are, in fact, very disturbing and gave me a terrible feeling inside, and did the same to the others that were watching PC with me.
As I had heard rumored, it is true. Caspian and Susan kiss. The end of the movie was approaching, and I was thinking “Yes! Haha! That scene was deleted!” But then, as they were saying good-bye, they did the terrible deed. I’m quite put out.
They changed the look of Aslan – he was a bit cartoonish – no longer majestic, as in the first film of the Chronicles. It almost seemed like they threw his character into the movie because they had to. He was a side character – and was hardly included in the film.
This is definitely not a great family film, I do not recommend young children seeing this.
In the film, they did not give you the time to get to know and love the characters – most of the movie was just fighting. The dialogue was short, and mostly one-liners – no interesting conversations.
This film – while entertaining – left me a bit disappointed. I was hoping for a better treatment of C.S. Lewis’ Prince Caspian.
(Please understand that I am not trying to be negative. I felt that these issues needed to be addressed, and my audience warned.)

running the race
May 3, 2008
“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of God.” – Hebrews 12:1-2
When I was going trough some of my sermon notes, I noticed that I’d written the above verse reference with the following note.
We are to turn away form our sins, and run with endurance in the race He has giving us, and the end (the finish line) is when He calls us home.
Then I got to thinking, these verses say so much more than just that. It shows that we are to display Christ in our lives, and be good witnesses before others, both believers and unbelievers. We should never give up, and we should continually keep our eyes on Christ, who, called us to be His people (Ephesians 1:5,11; 2 Timothy 1:9). He endured the pain and shame of the cross, and the rejection from His Father, and He is now sitting at the right hand of God!

While living the life my Lord has blessed me with, I am at home with my family enjoying being a daughter, homemaker and artist. My highest goal is to give glory to God and enjoy Him forever. It is He that has saved me with His amazing grace and is continually molding me; to Him I owe everything. Read more . . .
