“He did right in the sight of the Lord, yet not with a whole heart.” – 2 Chronicles 25:2
This verse is about Amaziah, who was king over Jerusalem for twenty-nine years. He obeyed God’s commands, but he didn’t do it with the right heart.
How many times have we obeyed our parents – and through obeying them, obeyed God – without a joyful attitude? How many times have we swept the floors, washed dishes, or even cleaned the bathroom with a bad attitude?
We must remember to have the fruits of the Spirit, and to glorify God in our actions.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.” – Galatians 5:22-25
The fight between our flesh and the Holy Spirit is continual. Often it is difficult to say “no” to the flesh – even when we know it’s wrong. We should be fully devoted to our Lord and Savior, and strive to give Him glory in all things, even in our attitudes.
